University of Nottingham: Portland Building Café

A calming sanctuary between lectures, Portland Coffee Co, at the University of Nottingham serves quality drinks in stylish and welcoming surroundings.

In collaboration with the Russel Partnership, Deanhouse was commissioned to strip out the existing café to make way for Portland Coffee Co.

The client wanted an attractive and comfortable space for students and staff to meet between lectures and enjoy good quality coffee in comfort and style.

Key to the brief was the desire for a multifunctional space, featuring a mix of seating styles with mobile booths, large communal tables, and comfy sofas.

A rich colour scheme, beautiful wooden floors, exposed ceilings, and feature lighting were also on the wish list. Along with a linear coffee counter, for improved customer experience and queue flow.
